Senior / Director VFX Artist (Stylized Games | Unity3D)
Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior / Director VFX Artist who combines strong artistic vision with hands-on production experience, capable of delivering high-quality, gameplay-driven VFX for AA and AAA projects in Unity3D.
In this role, you will:
Create expressive, stylized VFX with strong readability, timing, and visual impact
Act as the main VFX point of contact on our side while working closely with the client’s Art Director / VFX Lead
Stay deeply involved in production while shaping VFX quality, consistency, and direction
This is a hands-on senior/lead role within a fully remote and collaborative environment, ideal for an artist who enjoys both ownership and execution, and thrives in close collaboration with client-side leadership.
Responsibilities
Client Collaboration & Alignment
Collaborate directly with the client’s Art Director
Act as the main VFX representative on our side
Translate client feedback into high-quality, production-ready VFX
Stylized Real-Time VFX Creation
Create high-quality stylized VFX for gameplay, environments, and events
Focus on readability, timing, exaggeration, and clarity for real-time gameplay
Design effects that support player feedback, responsiveness, and game feel
Explore stylized approaches, including simplified simulations, flipbooks, and shader-driven solutions
Unity3D VFX Implementation
Build and implement VFX in Unity using VFX Graph, Shader Graph, and particle systems
Iterate on effects directly in-engine to match gameplay and design requirements
Ensure consistency, responsiveness, and clarity across VFX systems
VFX Quality & Ownership
Maintain overall VFX quality and consistency across the project
Stay hands-on in day-to-day production, actively creating effects
Define and improve VFX direction, workflows, and standards
Support and guide other artists when needed
Performance & Platform Awareness
Adapt VFX solutions to real-time and mobile constraints
Optimize for overdraw, memory usage, and performance budgets
Balance visual quality with technical limitations
Collaboration & Iteration
Work closely with designers, programmers, and technical artists
Iterate based on gameplay feedback, technical constraints, and production needs
Communicate clearly within a remote, agile workflow
Requirements
Experience
5+ years of professional experience as a VFX Artist in games
Experience working as a Senior or Lead VFX Artist on game projects
Portfolio
Strong VFX reel focused on stylized, real-time effects for games
Clear examples of gameplay-driven VFX, readability, timing, and impact
VFX & Artistic Skills
Excellent understanding of timing, motion, color, and shape language
Strong artistic sense for stylized and gameplay-driven VFX
Experience creating textures, flipbooks, and shader-based effects
Tools & Pipeline
Strong experience with real-time VFX workflows
Experience with tools such as Houdini, Photoshop, or similar for VFX content creation
Good understanding of VFX pipelines for games
Engine & Game Development
Proven experience working with VFX in Unity3D (VFX Graph, Shader Graph, particle systems)
Understanding of how VFX interacts with gameplay systems and player feedback
Mindset & Communication
Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with client-side leadership
Comfortable balancing ownership with hands-on VFX work
Problem-solver attitude with openness to experimentation
Fluent English and experience working in a fully remote environment
Bonus Skills
Experience working on mobile games or performance-constrained platforms
Houdini simulations and flipbook workflows
Basic scripting (C#) for gameplay-driven effects
Experience with stylized or non-realistic visual styles
Experience working in distributed or fully remote teams
