Overview:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team, providing support to all areas of Kepler’s business as well as all games within our portfolio. You will be working on a large variety of contracts, and help throughout the whole contract lifecycle; be responsible for our trademarks and regulatory compliance; and assist with company secretarial work and internal legal operations. This is a very broad role that will suit someone who is keen to get involved with a range of tasks, and isn’t afraid of continually being presented with new challenges.
This role is a fulltime position, and we’d ideally like someone who can start ASAP. The role reports to the Head of Legal.
What you’ll do:
Manage Kepler’s trademark portfolio (with the assistance of external counsel).
Be responsible for Kepler’s groupwide compliance with data protection and online safety legislation.
Work on a large variety of contracts due to the varied and complex nature of our business Some common contracts include:
o Funding, publishing, and marketing contracts with both first-party and third-party studios.
o Contracts with console and PC platforms.
o Partnership contracts e.g. transmedia extensions of our developers’ game IP or licensing third-party IP into our games.
o Game production-related contracts e.g. voiceover, localization, porting, QA.
o Employment and other HR-related contracts.
o Other group supplier contracts, such as IT systems and services, office leases, etc.Work and communicate directly with all Kepler teams as well as game studios (both first-party and third-party) and other partners and vendors.
Supervise and assist the Paralegal with company secretarial activities, like managing the share option platform, liaising with local counsel to prepare and file board resolutions, shareholder resolutions, board minutes etc.
Assist the Head of Legal with M&A projects.
Any ad-hoc activities based on business needs and responsibilities as assigned.
Who you are:
Qualified solicitor in England and Wales. This role would best suit someone with between one and four years of post-qualification experience, but all levels will be considered.
Previous experience in the games industry is highly desirable, and at the very least we will expect you to have experience working in another creative or IP-focused industry, and to be able to demonstrate a genuine interest, desire and passion to work in games.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, and the ability to prioritise and balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work autonomously but also a team player who can contribute to a positive work culture.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to explain complex legal concepts in simple terms to non-legal colleagues and partners.

Any expertise in French, Mandarin or Japanese would be helpful, but by no means necessary.
What can you expect during the Interview Process:
For the Legal Counsel role, there will be an initial screening call with Jess Pearce, People Partner, then we plan to have 2 stages of interviews, below we have outlined what you can expect from each:
Stage 1: Technical Interview with Archi Campbell, Head of Legal – we’ll dive into your experience a bit more, and also give you some hypothetical problems to see how you deal with them.
Stage 2: Values interview (see values above). Our values inform how we work day to day, and are the behaviours we hold people to. In this interview you will meet with 2 people from the business, outside of your team, where we’ll explore values alignment.
Please be aware that there may be some slight changes to the interview teams and order of interviews depending on availability; we will give you full details with ample time ahead of each conversation.
